Listen closely and you'll hear in guitarist and songwriter Doug Casteen's work a wealth of musical vision backed by solid experience.
Hailing from the Washington, DC area, Doug found inspiration at an early age in the Beatles and Jimi Hendrix. He picked up the guitar at age 12, after enduring a string of uninspiring piano lessons. Following a heavy dose of blues and the commensurate classic rock during his teen years, Doug’s curiosity and tastes quickly matured to encompass diverse styles from country, folk, rock, jazz, world, progressive, and all points in between.
Doug draws from these various influences to create a style that allows him to “play for the song.” Hitting the Washington DC/Baltimore circuits allowed him to adapt to many varied musical situations. Session work at various studios in the area furthered his opportunities to expand the language and quality of his music and Doug’s guitar has graced the airwaves with bands appearing on both local and national radio stations.
As a musician whose sonic philosophy naturally transcends limitation, Doug’s repertoire includes the banjo, mandolin, piano, and bass guitar.
Having composed three complete songs for the new Jason Adamo Band release, Transistor, and co-written four others for that record, Doug finds his lifelong effort to craft meaningful music distinctly beginning to emerge.
